Petrified wood is the result of permineralization which turns wood to stone. The process takes place when wood becomes buried under sediment or volcanic ash and is preserved due to a lack of oxygen. As a result, each of these decorative pieces are one-off product and will vary in appearance, some lighter, some darker, as the original wood grain dictates.
